At E-Cliniq Medical, we are proud to use injectable products of the highest quality to improve the appearance of the skin and facial lines. In our clinic, we choose our products based on research, studies and evidence-based medicine and purchase them from UK Pharmacies.

Profhilo® is currently the only treatment of its kind, that remodels the skin from within and can achieve visible results within a course of only 2-3 treatments. Profhilo® is considered a bioremodeling agent as opposed to a dermal filler or biorevitaliser and is commonly referred to as the ‘ultimate injectable moisturiser.

Our own medical aesthetic practitioner is one of the first 5 UK practitioners trained in Paris to administer PROFHILO®, back in 2016.

What is PROFHILO ?

Profhilo® consists of one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available in any aesthetic product on the market. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance, a major component of our skin and has a function in wound repair, hydration, and cell to cell communication. One of the main characteristics of hyaluronic acid is that it effectively binds water like a sponge. Profhilo® has been around since 2015 and has a very low risk of complications. It comprises a combination of ultra-pure medical grade high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid.

Unlike most hyaluronic acid products that are cross-linked using chemical agents, Profhilo® is thermally stabilised. The thermal stabilisation process changes the character and behaviour of the hyaluronic acid and allows it to have a longer-lasting effect, and this reduces the risk of adverse reactions.

Profhilo® is administered by injection using a very small needle. The procedure generally takes around 15 minutes to perform, once your consent has been obtained and photos have been taken.

What areas can be treated with PROFHILO ?

The most treated area is the face, by using a specifically devised treatment technique of injecting 5 points on each side of the face to maximise diffusion in the cheeks and lower face to achieve the best results. It is a versatile treatment suited to men and women. Profhilo® can be used all over the body but is particularly effective when treating skin laxity on the face, neck, and décolletage. Although less commonly performed, other treatment areas include:

  • Hands
  • Arms
  • Knees
  • Abdomen
  • Elbows

How does PROFHILO work ?

Profhilo® offers a revolutionary technology that delivers an anti-ageing treatment into the skin of your face, neck, and other areas of the body. The low molecular weight portion is responsible for hydration and stimulating the formation of new collagen and elastin within the skin whereas the high molecular weight component provides support and a scaffolding action.

Due to thermal stabilisation, the ultra-pure hyaluronic acid remains in the skin for around 28 days, however the slow release of hyaluronic acid stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin for more lasting results. Despite its high hyaluronic acid content, it has a low inflammatory profile coupled with pro-healing properties backed by clinical studies.
You can expect increased firmness, elasticity, and an overall improved quality of the skin with the effects lasting about six months. This depends upon the degree of correction required, your age and lifestyle.

We recommend Profhilo® Heankenium as an adjunctive homecare topical hyaluronic acid cream to supplement the injectable effects of treatment and to provide high strength antioxidant benefits. Profhilo® Haenkenium is an innovative hyaluronic acid formula that nourishes the skin to help prevent photo ageing, restore barrier function, as well as helping to alleviate signs of redness and skin irritation with advanced anti-ageing benefits.

Is PROFHILO painful ?

Profhilo®, unlike other hyaluronic acid products, does not contain lidocaine, therefore a stinging or burning sensation can be experienced but subsides quickly. Following the procedure, there may be some tenderness, which is expected, but you should not experience a significant degree of pain.

Immediately following the procedure, there will be visible bumps in the skin. These subside gradually, without massage, often within hours, but may take up to 24 hours to settle fully.

How safe is PROFHILO ?

From a safety perspective, Profhilo® is highly bio-compatible because it is made from ultra-pure, natural hyaluronic acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions. In any case, you should plan your treatment around social events in case you do experience any effects that could affect your appearance, such as mild bruising.

What does the procedure involve ?

Prior to your treatment you will receive a full consultation, complete a medical questionnaire, and be offered a cooling-off period to enable you to make an informed decision with full disclosure of the possible risks and side effects specific to you. Before you receive any treatment, you will be required to sign a consent form, which may be on paper or electronic and be given the opportunity to ask any further questions.

Photographs will be taken and kept as part of your medical record. This allows us to approximate the number of treatments based upon the expected level of improvement from treatment, as well as the baseline condition of the area to be treated. Patients can expect to need between 2-3 treatments, which will depend upon individual age, size of the area being treated, as well as the baseline condition of the skin, and the degree of laxity.

Am I suitable for PROFHILO treatment?

Yes, if your main skin concerns are lack of hydration and skin laxity. It is an excellent treatment choice for menopausal skins looking to restore moisture at a cellular level and restore the glow and luminosity to their skin. It is also an excellent treatment option for bridal skin preparation to achieve a brightening, tightening and hydrating effect
You may not be suitable for treatment if any of the following apply:

  • Anyone allergic to any of the ingredients in the Profhilo (hyaluronic acid is a natural constituent of skin therefore you would not be allergic to this).
  • Skin infection at the injection site.
  • Profhilo treatment is contraindicated for some people with certain auto-immune diseases.
  • If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding (It is not known if the Profhilo can be harmful to your unborn child).

Is there any Pre-Treatment advice?

  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication (such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen) for 3 days prior to treatment (unless this has been prescribed by your doctor), as this increases the risk of bruising.
  • Alcohol, fish oils, St. John’s Wort, Gingko Biloba and Vitamin E should also be avoided for 3 days prior to treatment to lessen the risk of bruising.
  • If you are prone to bruising, taking arnica orally for a few days prior to treatment may lessen the risk.
  • If you are unwell on the day of your appointment, contact the clinic to reschedule.
  • Avoid sunbeds and tanning for 1 week before and after treatment.
  • Do not plan to have treatment within 2 weeks of an important social event or holiday as this may not allow enough time for side-effects, such as bruising to settle, or to have a review appointment.

Is there any Post-Treatment advice ?

After treatment, most people can resume to their normal daily activities. Immediately after treatment, there may be some redness, tenderness and swelling at the injection sites and there will likely be visible lumps at the injection sites. Bruising may be obvious immediately after treatment and may be quite pronounced.

  • Do not apply make-up for 12 hours after treatment to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming pools and sunbeds until the initial swelling and redness has settled.
  • Try to avoid touching or rubbing the treated area until the following day, as you may affect the results of treatment or cause infection, unless otherwise advised.
  • Massage of the area is not required; the product will diffuse naturally on its own.
  • Avoid extremes of hot or cold and vigorous exercise until the initial swelling has resolved.
  • If swelling persists, you may be advised to apply a cool pad to help remedy this.
