What is Dermalux™-Led Phototherapy?

Dermalux™ LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive hand and facial treatment that uses narrow band, non-thermal LED light energy to trigger your body’s natural cell processes to accelerate rejuvenation and repair of the skin. It combines red, blue and near-infra-red light emitting diode or LED light sources.
A unique, patented feature of the Dermalux™ system is that, unlike other competitor LED devices, all three light wavelengths (red, blue and near infra-red) can be delivered either as individual phototherapy treatments or simultaneously and in any combination. This means that it can provide stimulation at a sub-cellular, cellular and tissue level to target multiple concerns in one treatment session for an optimal clinical response.
The red light (633nm) is used for the benefit of all skin types and has a rejuvenating and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.
The near infra-red light (830nm) is the wavelength that is most deeply absorbed by skin tissue and works well in combination with the red light to stimulate collagen, elastin and growth factors within the tissues to counteract ageing and skin damage.
The blue light (415nm) has an anti-bacterial action which is proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of acne and assisting in the prevention of further breakouts. The blue light destroys the P. acnes bacteria responsible for causing the acne breakouts.

How does Dermalux™ Led Facial Work?

Our skin has the ability to absorb light energy and use it to stimulate or regulate essential cell processes. LED phototherapy is the application of beneficial wavelengths from the visible and infrared part of the light spectrum which has proven skin-enhancing benefits. Skin cells that are energised function better and can renew up to 200% faster accelerating regeneration and repair.
Dermalux™ LED is an essential part of any skincare programme to optimise and accelerate results and provides the foundation for beautiful skin.
Individual treatments energise the skin to instantly revitalise a dull complexion, restore luminosity or calm irritation. A perfect boost before a special event or as part of an ongoing maintenance programme.

What Are the Benefits of Dermalux™ Led Facial?

Phototherapy treatment using Light Emitting Diodes (LED) is a heat-free light treatment. It is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types, including darker skin and even on the most sensitive of skin conditions.

The Dermalux™ uses unique combinations of clinically proven Blue, Red and Near Infrared wavelengths to boost collagen production, increase hydration, calm redness and irritation and blitz blemish-causing bacteria. As the light triggers a whole cascade of skin-enhancing processes, the benefits continue even after the treatment has finished. The red LED light has an anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory effect, for example, whilst the blue LED light provides an anti-bacterial effect for acne treatment.

Unlike sunbeds, LEDs do not contain any harmful UV wavelengths so cannot damage skin tissue; they can, however, stimulate hydration and blood circulation and will instantly give your skin a healthy and radiant glow following exposure during a specified treatment session.
LED is a non-invasive and painless treatment that whilst rejuvenating the skin or actively reducing the causes of acne also promotes a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing as exposure to light sources can increase serotonin levels in the body which relieves stress, tension and headaches.

What Happens During a Led Treatment Session?

A medical history will be taken to make sure that there are no reasons why you shouldn’t undertake this treatment. You will be asked to read detailed information and sign a consent form which means that you have understood the potential benefits and risks associated with the procedure.

Photographs will also be taken by the practitioner for a “before and after” comparison at a later date.
Skin preparation with the application of vitamin A or C creams and SPF50 will be recommended for up to 2-4 weeks prior to the commencement of the procedure. A similar skin care regime will also be recommended for up to 6 months post-treatment to aid the healthy production of the new collagen and the rejuvenation of the skin.

Treatment sessions will take between 45 minutes and an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.
It can take between 4 – 8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue over the following months with maintenance sessions, providing a gradual enhancement. A single treatment can produce noticeable results, however, an intensive course of 12 sessions taken in close succession is recommended for optimum cell activation, in conjunction with an at-home regime.

The specific number of sessions required will depend on the area being treated and the severity of the indication, as well as the level of natural response from the individual’s body.

Is There Any Downtime After Led Facial?

What is The Aftercare For Led Phototherapy?

It is very important that you follow the advice of our practitioner carefully after any treatment to help make the procedure as successful as possible and to reduce the risk of complications.

In preparation for your LED Phototherapy treatment, all makeup and skin care products including sunscreen should be removed to allow absorption of beneficial light into the skin. Please attend your appointment without any make-up if possible. For optimum results, exfoliation prior to treatment helps to remove dead skin cells which may reflect the light. It is not necessary to remove contact lenses during the LED treatment.

Visible Red and Near Infrared are eye safe and will not cause any damage to the eye, even with deliberate exposure. However, as the light is very bright, we recommend the use of the protective eye goggles provided, for your comfort. With Blue light or any treatment combination including the Blue light, we strongly recommend that the goggles are worn for the duration of the treatment.

Post-treatment advice will include:

  • using tepid water to cleanse the face for the first 24 hours following treatment;
  • ensuring that hands are always clean when touching the area treated;
  • not applying conventional make-up products to the skin for the first 12 hours following treatment, some mineral-based make-up products are able to be applied as recommended by our practitioner;
  • applying the prescribed skincare products given to you by our practitioner according to the regime specifically designed for you;
  • applying a broad spectrum sunscreen product with a high SPF, ideally 50, immediately after treatment before leaving the clinic and when going outside the following treatment.

Am I Suitable For Dermalux™ Led Facial?

The LED facial is suitable for all skin types both male and female individuals.
As long as you are generally healthy and don’t have any skin diseases or infections in the area treated, there are few medical reasons why you should not undergo this treatment.

Certain medications may cause photosensitivity and specific conditions may also be triggered by light, so it`s important to fully disclose all medications you are currently taking and your medical history during your consultation.

As LED therapy does not create photosensitivity, it is a safe treatment to have directly pre- and post-sun exposure.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding may be advised to wait before embarking on a treatment programme.
